Day Trip to Wausau

We have been buying a pig from our dear friends at Orange Dog Farm in Rhinelander for several seasons now {Best pork ever!} and this year was no different. The piggies are processed in Merrill and, wouldn't you know it we got the call that we needed to come pick up the meat ASAP right as deer season was opening. I guess they needed to clear out their freezer space! Anyway, Dan did not want to take time away from his deer stand so I offered to take the children to pick up pork and visit the Birds in Art Exhibit at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum. Nola graciously volunteered to come with as well - always wonderful to have an extra set of hands with the kids.

We made the ~hour and a half journey and arrived at Geiss Meats before noon.

We brought a ginormous cooler but that was not enough room for all of the pork so we needed to make a detour to Walmart to pick up a few more coolers.

We got it all in the back of the van!

After a morning of loading pork, we headed to Great Dane for lunch (Always a fan favorite!)

Love grabbing lunch with my kiddos!

Here are the L's. :)

We love hanging out with Grammy!

What a beautiful day to visit the sculpture garden.

My kids have always loved the froggy statue.

We like to climb on the hippo too!

In the summer months this sculpture can get quite warm so it is nice to sit on it during a cool time.

Gotta love these sunny and crisp fall days!

We were excited to see all of the Birds in Art this season.

Roman grabbed my phone and took hundreds of pictures - I was deleting bird art off of my camera roll for days!

My boys love visiting Leigh Yawkey Woodson.

Leo was definitely not a quiet patron.

We found the children's area . :)

I even made a stencil and watercolor drawing.

Even Leo worked on a painting project.

What a fun Saturday! Thanks for joining us, Nola!

A Week in the Life ... Kind of (November 2021)

I had high hopes that I would be able to do a 'Week in the Life' post this November but everything went to heck pretty quickly. Haha! Here is my weak attempt to document our family activities but, of course, life was derailed by COVID. Whomp whomp.

We started our week with church - the boys were pumped to see crackers, cheese, and venison in the fellowship hall.

After services we sent the big kids to Joyful Noise and Sunday School.

While Lucy and Roman were occupied - Dan, Leo & I zipped to Festival to rent a carpet cleaner.

We picked up the cleaner and had the cutest little helper.

It was a snowy Sunday so Lucy and Roman enjoyed time outside.

They built some fun snowmen in our yard.

Lucy's friend Callie messaged and asked for a playdate so the girls met up for some sledding at the hill by the high school.

We cleaned carpets and snuggled on the couch.

We watched the Packers and threw our swim bags together for Sunday night lessons.

We headed to the YMCA for lessons, I hate that it gets so dark so fast on those November evenings!

I watched for a bit from the viewing area - Can you spot Lucy here?

Here is Roman's class. :)

I eventually left my perch and ran to the grocery store during swim class.

I got the Mid-Session report for Lucy after class. She is doing so well at swim, her teacher said that she was ready for the Jr. Lifeguarding class! Lucy's teacher also suggested that she try out the Barracuda Swim Team as another way to get pool time.

We returned home for my favorite Sunday night supper - Breakfast for Dinner!

After supper Dan filled Brad's advent calendar with treasures. ;)

Roman has library on Mondays so we tracked down his books to return, you can see that he is enjoying Scooby Doo mysteries these days. He loves reading!

We packed up school bags and got the kiddos to bed.

Ugh, I got a bad wake up call - an alert that Leo was exposed to COVID and thus out of daycare for the next 14 days.

Lucy ended up having a tummy bug of some sort on Monday too so this is pretty much how my L's spent the day.

On Monday evening I had a church committee meeting - just a review of the calendar of monthly Sunday School happenings.

Then I took this kiddo to basketball practice.

After Roman and I got home, the big kids watched some Babysitters Club and Leo got ready for bed.

On Tuesday, Dan went on a work trip and Lucy went back to school so it was just Leo and Mama at home. I was working so I pulled out all of the stops - Leo got to eat his favorite snacks early in the morning.

Out of an abundance of caution, I took Leo in to the clinic to be tested for COVID. We were planning to see family for Thanksgiving the following week and I wanted to make sure we were in the clear.

I would like to say that Leo's Tuesday at home was filled with crafts, baking, sensory tables, and healthy eating but I was trying to work so it was lots of TV time and snacking. Ai yi yi!

Tuesday evenings are busy for our crew - We stopped by the pool to give Lucy a chance to meet up with the Barracuda swimming group. The boys were occupied with lots of snacks and coloring pages.

 e

As soon as pool time was over we headed across town to En Avant for Lucy's Dance classes. She is taking ballet and jazz this year.

This was a view into the backseat as we sat in the En Avant parking lot. Roman calls this his 'Rock and Roll' pose. Hahaha!

Of course we stopped by McDonalds for the dinner of champions. AKA - Mama didn't have the bandwidth to make supper.

When we got home, I watched a little bit of my favorite guilty pleasure- The Bachelorette!

Can I say that Michelle's season is the best one yet? Love her and love that so much of the show is filmed in Minneapolis. I mean, look at this date at Target field!

I put the kiddos to bed and brought the garbage to the curb since it was Tuesday night.

I got the official news that Leo was negative for COVID. Yay! Even though he tested negative, Leo was still out of school for 14 days per the Health Department. The rationale is that, because the day care kiddos are not wearing masks consistently and because they are still too small to verbalize symptoms like loss of smell they need to stay home for the full 2 weeks. Ai yi yi.

Dan was still out of town for work so I took PTO on Wednesday to manage this sweetheart.

We hung out, read books, and did laundry with Ranger.

We continued to have snacks.

We tidied up rooms; Lucy is obsessed with lists these days so we threw away lots of scraps of the morning schedules that were littering her floor/desk. We pretty much do the same thing every morning but Lucy still loves putting these routines together. :)

We started listening to Christmas music. :)

We visited the dog park - both Leo and Ranger enjoyed stretching their legs.

We spent Wednesday evening doing homework and playing Battleship.

By Thursday Dan was home and able to hold down the fort with me so I could work on this day without too much distraction. :)

I recently joined a Demographics and Trends subcommittee for the Eau Claire school board so once a month I hop on a Thursday call to review various topics and make recommendations. I am learning a ton!

Lucy has Girl Scouts every other Thursday - on this night she had a special meeting at a dance and cheer studio. So much fun!

The big kids and I had tickets to Sarah, Plain and Tall at the Children's Theater on Friday night so I had high hopes of reading the book during the course of the week. It didn't happen. Dang it! It isn't very long so we tried to speed read but didn't quite make it.

Whew - we made it to Friday! Leo and I made muffins to celebrate!

We did a Target run - the Friday routine of champions! ;)

We made it to the dog park.

We always have pizza on Friday nights. Easy supper for the win!

The bigs and I went to the theater after dinner - both of them loved the show. So did I! It definitely has Little House on the Prairie vibes so that is probably why I liked it so much.

We got home in time to see Dan off to the hunting cabin. Hello deer gun season - Wisconsin's state holiday! ;)

That's a week in the life during the time of COVID - always an adventure! As always, grateful for flexible work and healthy kids!
