I wanted to share this video of Lucy channeling a little TLC - she likes to sing Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls while we wash her hair in the tub. We captured this clip of her singing it to Roman in the bath. Love it!

Mid-July Happenings
Just a few photos from July! The highlights of our summer months were having out at the beach and spending time with friends. :)
Lucy and Jacob enjoyed swimming in Buck Lake with their Dads.
This little man loves the beach!
Splashing in the water with Evelyn!
Sharing pizza with friends. :)
Lucy and Jake read with Laura
Big news from July - Lucy moved to her big girl bed! She has been doing a great job in her new toddler bed. We have had a little bit of night waking and a few bad dreams here and there but overall Lucy is a big kid sleeping in her own room. It is interesting -- she is starting to imagine more things, Lucy will call out for Mom or Dad and say things like, "There is a penguin in my closet!" or "I saw a lion!" Sometimes she will get scared but most nights she goes to sleep without any drama! :)
Lucy @ 32 months
This is a perfect picture to capture Lucy at 32 months - she loves to be outside, she picks flowers and loves exploring. Lucy enjoys going on walks and one her primary hobbies this summer was gathering toads in our backyard. Lucy would sometimes have 3 or 4 toads in her hot little hands at one time! As you know from my previous post, Lucy is a poet - haha!, she loves to read and sing, and she is a huge fan of dance parties.

Fun with Sophia and Henrick
At the beginning of July we met our good friends from Madison - Sophia and baby Henrick at the park in Minocqua. They were staying at their family cabin in Mercer and were happy to meet us at the halfway point. We spent a lovely evening playing at the park, having a picnic, and listening to live music. Lucy was so excited to see her good friend Sophia again. Despite not seeing each other for a few months, they picked up right where they left off!
Here are the girls having lots of fun!
It was so good to see you, Yaya, Pam, Sophia, and Henrick! Please visit the Northwoods again soon!
I do have a good story about our drive back from Minocqua on this July evening. We went to the potty right before leaving town but, about 3 minutes outside of Minocqua, Lucy announced that she needed to pee again. Sigh! We were very close to Lake Tomahawk so we stopped at a somewhat sketchy gas station - the kind that has a full liquor store attached to it. I got both kids out of the car and into the bathroom which was not super clean and there was definitely not a sound proof door so everyone in the gas station could hear Lucy singing at the top of her lungs while she was going to the bathroom. After she finished with her job, we started to leave the station and the cashier motioned to me saying, 'Ma'am, Ma'am, is it okay for me to give her this?' and showed me a Dum Dum sucker. I said yes and Lucy exclaimed, 'Thank you for the sucker!' There were a bunch of very coarse looking dudes in line waiting to buy gas and booze and they were all treated to a full rendition of Lucy singing, 'Sucker, Sucker Bo Bucker - Banana Fanna Fo &$*(er!!!' I was trying to hustle her out as quickly as I could and, yes, the girl can certainly rhyme! ugh! All of the guys in line were just cracking up. Makes a mama proud! :)
Roman @ 10 months
At ten months old our little guy is crawling and pulling himself up on e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g! His favorite word is Dada and he is sporting just two little teeth on the bottom. He eats like a champ and his faves include watermelon and banana. Roman loves to get into whatever his sister is doing and he is also a huge fan of different textures - petting the dog's fur, pulling grass, and playing in the sand. He claps all of the time and he often clasps his hands and pumps them victoriously. He is just starting to give hugs and really hold on as you carry him around. Love you little man!
The Beach
We spent a lot of time at Pictured Rocks on the beautiful beaches.
Lucy loves playing in the sand...
…and so does her brother!
We made sand angels
And lazed around in the sun.
When the kids are older we would love to take them kayaking on Lake Superior!
Happy Summer!
Pictured Rocks Cruise
On our anniversary, we took a cruise around the Lakeshore. Pictured Rocks got its name because people often see pictures in the rocks on this area of Lake Superior, just like people see pictures in clouds. The colors were beautiful - here are some photos from our boat ride:
A patriotic picture of the American flag from the back of the boat.
Roman and his Dad on the boat
Mama and Roman on the cruise
Here is a very excited little girl - Lucy was very happy to be on board. She talked about this boat ride and the Captain for weeks after our adventure.
Here is a montage on what we saw:
This is one of my favorites - as you can see a tree was growing on one of the rocks and a huge section of the rock crumbled off into the water. The roots stayed and the tree continues to grow on its own little rock island now.
It was an awesome morning, if you do find yourself at the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore, you should definitely take a cruise! It is a great way to see all of the cool rock formations.
Happy 4th of July!
What a perfect place to spend the 4th of July! We took a spectacular hike around the Pictured Rock Lakeshore on the morning of the 4th. Just look at this water!
The kids were decked out in their patriotic clothes! A big thanks to Grandma Nola for finding the 4th of July outfits! :) One of the cool things about the lookouts at the Lakeshore were these nice little windows for the children to peek out of - Lucy and Roman were big fans. And we didn't need to pick them up! They are so cute.
We had some fantastic views of the water - we watched some boats cruising around.
Daniel and the kids on our hike.
Some of the beautiful scenery from the Lakeshore.
Here is our family! Married for 6 years and 2 kids later! :)
We saw lots of kayakers on the Lake - here is what one beach looked like on the 4th of July
Lucy and her Dad played in the water. The Lake looks spectacular but the water was freezing! Dan and I could not dip our toes in it without having our toes/feet go numb. I am not sure if Lucy's nerve endings are not fully developed yet because this kid was excited to jump in the water and she did not care in the least that the water was so cold. Haha!
We enjoyed a campfire and S'mores on the 4th - this was Lucy's first S'more. It was very delicious and messy! Happy 4th of July!

Holiday Weekend at Pictured Rocks
We spent a wonderful 4th of July holiday weekend and 6th Anniversary at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Pictured Rocks is a place that we have intended to visit for quite a while now and we are so happy that we had the opportunity to go this summer. We camped with the kids, spent a lot of time at the beach, took a cruise around the lakeshore - it was great!
We kicked off the holiday by attending a music performance in Pioneer Park on Wednesday evening. The kids in the audience received tiny American flags so Lucy was pretty excited. :)
We packed up everything for our camping adventures on Thursday morning and hit the road for the Upper Peninsula Michigan. It took us about 4 hours to drive to the Lakeshore. We took a gamble and did not make any reservations at a campground. We found a great spot without any problems.
The kids were thrilled when we got the tent set up. As you may recall from previous blog posts from summers gone by - we do have an obnoxious mansion-like tent! :) Lucy and Roman had plenty of room in our 10 person tent for their stuff - toys, gear, pack and play, etc. It is awesome! :)
After we ate dinner we headed to the beach near our campground. The Upper Peninsula has really beautiful beaches. Lucy was in heaven. I love the colors of Lucy's clothes, next to the sand, water, and plants, in these pictures.
Roman was in the front pack - we took a short hike around the beach and he was happy to hang out with papa.
