On Day 2 we were up and at 'em early; grabbed some coffee and a breakfast treat and made our way to the subway stop.
We needed a downtown train to get to the ferry stop. It was quick and easy to use the subway; love that they just take credit cards and you don't even need a Metrocard.
We had tickets for the ferry - love seeing Manhattan from the water!
We were excited to see Lady Liberty from the boat.
She was stunning as always.
Selfie from the ferry!
We opted to skip Liberty island and continue on to Ellis Island.
We made it to Ellis Island! What a wonderful museum.
Here is the great hall - we explored, we watched an excellent movie, we popped into a gift shop...
...our girl came back wearing one of these babies! Haha! Next year's Halloween costume - check.
We got back to lower Manhattan and started our walk up thought the city.
We saw Wall Street and Lucy took a picture with the famous bull.
We passed by Trinity Church and our little Hamilton fan posed next to his grave.
Next on the agenda - we stopped by the World Trade Center site. During this visit to the Memorial the South pool was closed for repairs and cleaning but the North site was open. I haven't been here in years and it was amazing to see the difference in this space. We did not go to the museum this time because we did not have time.
At this point, we needed some nourishment - a NY pizza slice hit the spot.
Lucy opted for a Roman slice. ;)
After our lunch we had the energy to walk to Chinatown.
Love this neighborhood - talk about sensory overload!
We zipped into a Chinese grocery store and found all kinds of fun snacks.
Lots of seafood too. ;)
We were on the Lower East side so we visited the Tenement Museum. I first went to this place years ago - in 2004 and never forgot it! The Museum tells about the waves of immigration that came through this part of the City; a tour guide walks you through historic homes and tells the story of real families/people who lived in the neighborhood 100+years ago. It is such a remarkable and humbling experience to hear these stories and to be in the same rooms.
We went on a tour that was specifically about women and the roles they played; this particular family was dressmakers. Highly, highly recommend a visit to the Tenement if you are in NYC.
After our busy day we took a break for a cocktail.
We were close to Little Italy and excited for dinner!
We met up with Amelia's friend from high school, Antonia. It was fun to connect. It felt like Italy - a beautiful night to eat outside, restaurant hosts trying to hustle you in for a seat, little old men playing accordions and singing, all good thing! ;)
I had a delicious meal! Gnocchi for the win.
Lucy loved the ambiance!
What an awesome day exploring these iconic neighborhoods.
We heart NY!
