We try to get some tent camping in each season and this summer we visited Pattison State Park in northwest Wisconsin.
We arrived late in the evening and set up camp mostly in the dark. Whomp whomp. Unfortunately we realized that our air mattress had a big leak and was deflating quickly. Here is what it looked like in the morning - not pretty! Especially to a couple of 40 something parents - LOL! Flatter than a pancake, folks.
The children woke up alert and well rested so we ate breakfast as Daniel hustled to the nearest 24 hour Walmart in Superior in a quest for a new mattress.
While Dad caught up on some rest on his new purchase - the kids and I visited the beach. The water was so clear, even in early September!
We enjoyed a sunny Saturday dipping our toes in the water.
As with other state parks, there were coyote statues to keep the goose (and goose poop!) at bay.
Pattison State Park features some of highest waterfalls in Wisconsin - on this morning we hiked to Twin Little Manitou Falls.
We paused on the hiking trails for some scenic pictures.
My littlest hiker in his favorite wolf sweatshirt.
We made it to the top!
What a beautiful September day.
The children were eager to explore...
And play on the rocks while wading in the water.
We had a fun morning together and headed back to our site for lunch and to wake up Dad.
After lunch we made our way to Big Manitou Falls.
This is the highest waterfall in Wisconsin.
It is the fourth highest waterfall east of the Rockies!
It was a great hike.
The Storm family gives Pattison State Park two thumbs up.
Our adventures continued as we visited Amnicon Falls State Park just down the road.
This park features waterfalls and rapids along the Amnicon River.
The rock formations were fantastic.
We had fun jumping along the rocks.
The waterfalls were delightful.
Ranger enjoyed the scenery too.
The covered bridge was so nice.
Of course we had S'mores in the evening.
Nothing better than a bonfire on a crisp September night.
On Sunday morning we returned to the beach to give Ranger some exercise.
The L's and I did a short hike while Dan, Ranger, and Roman played fetch.
Love to walk with my Lucy and Leo - we even saw a couple of snakes on the trail!
Roman is always a pro at finding critters!
We played plenty of corn hole on this trip!
On Sunday afternoon we made the quick trip to Duluth since we were in the neighborhood ;). Dang - it was windy out!! Pretty sure that Leo was starting to cry in that beach photo.
We saw big ships and opted for a walk along a rocky path versus the sandy shore.
We walked along Lake Superior - there was some fantastic people watching on this path. We even saw a gentleman walking a goose on a leash! LOL.
It was a windy and cool September Sunday.
We stopped by Canal Park Brewing for dinner - love this spot!
Cheers to a good beer and a big ol' fish sandwich.
Our kids really wanted to eat inside...
...but we had this guy with us and needed to have supper outside.
Despite everyone being chilled to the bone, we stopped for some DQ on our way out of town. Haha!
Happy Labor Day weekend Everyone!
