Solstice Hike

Our family spent a winter afternoon on a hike at the Town of Union Conservancy. I am pretty sure that this picture was taken at ~3:30 or 4:00 and the sun was already very low in the sky.

This trail was right along the Chippewa River and it was beautiful!

The house was a hot mess and we had a million things to do but, dang - it sure felt good to get some fresh air.

The Landmark Conservancy sponsored the hike and they had a big bonfire plus s'mores and hot chocolate. The kids loved it!

After our hike we ran errands and went out for dinner! Gotta love Mexican food from a place with fabulous murals. ;) They also had a giant fish tank which Leo adored.

Happy Winter Solstice!

Life Lately - December Edition

In December we had lots of holiday themed treats! Thanks to Aldi for these sweet little ice cream desserts. :)

Dan and I both worked from home all month due to our Quarantine kiddo. Ranger was not complaining! He loves it when Daniel works from home - can't get close enough! Haha.

We tried to get outside every single day for our sanity! Leo loves playing in the snow.

We all played Christmas Bingo - this is a non-reader version so Leo plays right along side the big kiddos. They love it!

We made some Christmas cookies!

We can barely get a picture of Roman these days without a big old KISS face. Ai yi yi.

Again - these are the drawings that are all over the house these days! This son of mine was born a few decades too late and missed the glory days of KISS.

Look at how cute these candy cane cookies turned out!

Speaking of candy canes - we got some adorable and yummy marshmallows for a Hot Chocolate night. You can see the candy cane on the left and a fun snowflake on the right!

We made our way through all of our 'usual' Christmas movies so Daniel introduced the kids a classic ...

...Ernest Saves Christmas! Haha! My only regret is that Roman was away, spending the night at a friend's house so he missed out!

The big kids and I headed to the YMCA for a 'Swim with Snowflakes' holiday event.

Leo has had a love/hate relationship with swimming and he was in a hate mode at the time so he stayed at home with his Daddy on this afternoon.

These two fishes will never decline pool time!

My elementary school children had a bunch of dress up days in December including a day where the kids "Dressed up like Teachers/Staff" and the teachers "Dressed up like Students". Roman couldn't wait to put on his dress shirt and tie - he has many aunties and an uncle in the education world and they all noted that he looked more like a principal than a teacher. ;) Also, if you look close you will see that he is still wearing his beloved athletic pants. He was ready for Zoom school! Business on top and comfy on the bottom. LOL! Getting Roman to wear jeans or dress pants without an elastic waist pretty much never happens.

Speaking of fun December stuff at school ... check out the plan for Lucy's holiday party. Little House on the Prairie Christmas episodes?!? Sign me up! Hah!

In other dress up news - here is our little guy wearing his train conductor gear while playing with his train set.

Leo enjoys going to his brother's basketball practices - probably because he gets lots of snacks! ;)

At long last, here is our 'Back to School' photo for Leo. Hallelujah!

I am gonna miss having this little goofball constantly at my side but I am so glad he is back to his daycare routine!

In December we feasted on gingerbread themed waffles. Lucy loves herself some breakfast for dinner and will make themed waffles for any season. :)

Ugh. I left one Storm child alone for 30 seconds and look what happened. The Baby Shark wrapping paper was too tempting I guess ...

No worries, Lucy was able to repair the damage.

Lucy is a wrapping pro! We sponsored a new baby for the holidays through Lucy's Girl Scout troop and the kids had the best time picking out toys, clothes, diapers, and bottles. They all wanted to meet the little girl. :)

Another day, another skin issue for one of the Storm kiddos. Sigh. Leo had a persistent rash on his belly/armpits/arms, it didn't seem to bother him but it was not going away! Dr. Google said that it was molluscum contagiosum but I went to Dr. Manju to make an official diagnosis. Guess what - Dr. Google and Dr. Manju agreed on this one!! Nothing that we can do except wait this out...Dr. Manju said that it could be up to 6 to 12 MONTHS for this to disappear. Very thankful that this is not painful or itchy for our little guy.

Ranger also had a doctor visit during December - just getting this pup up to date with his vaccines. I'll be honest - it has been a lot of years since I have been in a vet clinic. When we were in Rhinelander we had an awesome set up with a vet who practiced out of the back of his van so we would just meet up in a parking lot and get everything done. All of these years later and I still have some PTSD of those many, many vet visits with Chief. Yep, still hate the smell and sounds of the vet clinic. Grateful that our Ranger is healthy!

The kiddos worked on their rehearsal for the Christmas program at church. This year Lucy was Mary and Roman was an angel. Leo is not yet in Sunday school since he is still 2 but they did offer him a role as the sweetest baby sheep. He was so cute during practice but ended up declining to participate in the real deal.

Love that Lucy gets to be Mary this year! I was Mary in my church pageant back when I was in 3rd grade and I still remember how special it felt.

This is what Dan's December looked like - lots of deer hunting! ;)

The kids and I watched Donald Trump's greatest achievement - his cameo in Home Alone 2. ;)

The big kids worked on a gingerbread house. Please don't let these pictures fool you - these two were fighting like crazy and were super upset when their structure fell apart multiple times.

Good news - it all came together!

One more Christmas craft to note - Lucy went with her Girl Scout troop to Board & Brush. They all picked out the cutest projects! Lucy made this Santa stops Here sign complete with a little chalkboard for updates.

While Lucy was crafting this December babe and I zipped to the library - his happy spot.

Phew - this ended up being a long post! Hope you enjoyed following along with some of our Christmas activities! ;)

A Super Festive Saturday

The children and I had a fun Saturday in December - jam packed with Christmas joy and activities.

First up, we changed from our used pjs to fresh new Christmas jammies so we could go to the Polar Express Event at the Children's Theater.

My sweet boys - can you tell that Leo is trying to bust out of this hug and run to our event? LOL!

First stop at the Children's Theater - Viewing the Christmas villages and trains!

As a side note, you cannot have a true holiday train in Wisconsin without a Miller High Life train car. Haha!

We hopped in Santa's sleigh for a photo op.

Then we had our tickets punched by the conductor. All aboard! :)

We found the table assigned to our family.

We waited for treats + the Polar Express reading + sing-a-long to commence.

We got lots of treats - including hot chocolate of course!

We also decorated some cookies. :)

We wrote letters to Santa and played Bingo.

When our table number was called we got to have a picture with Santa and Sven. :) Leo was captivated! It was such a fun event - 2 thumbs up!

After Polar Express, the treats just kept on coming. ;) We stopped by Ramone's for this Grinch shake!

I mean how cute is this?!?

Oh and it was delicious too!

We zipped home for lunch and left again for some Christmas ornament crafting at Board & Brush.
Roman could not wait to create his reindeer AKA Milwaukee Bucks ornament! :)

Lucy opted for a Merry & Bright ornament.

It turned out so cute!!

The big kids had a great time but the place was a zoo!  It was like every kiddo in the greater Eau Claire area was there to make an ornament on that afternoon! We opted not to see Santa at this location and left for home. Overall it was great day that got the children in the holiday spirit.
