Making Progress

We continue to make progress in our bonus room space - we are so excited to see these rooms take shape!

Here is Lucy's bedroom...

And the hallway! We are looking forward to having the children's space complete! :)

Happy Mother's Day!

This year I celebrated my first Mother's Day as a mom of 2!! I love these little peanuts so much!

Who wouldn't want to be the mama of these sweethearts!?!

We had a great day! Daniel and the kids made me a delicious breakfast! :)

Lucy made a sweet card!

On our way to church that Sunday we spotted a turtle! He was crossing the road so Daniel stopped to pick him up and give the kids a closer look.

This guy is a wood turtle!

Daniel introduced Lucy to the turtle.

A shout out to all mamas everywhere, especially to our awesome moms, Sharon and Nola. You are the best! We are so blessed to have you in our lives! We love you and appreciate you very much.

Sidewalk Chalk

There is nothing better than cracking open a box of sidewalk chalk! The weather was awesome so we spent time decorating our driveway in May. Lucy eagerly opened our box of chalk.

She was pretty excited to draw!

Digging for her first piece of chalk for the season.

Roman happily observed from his blanket! We are so happy that the weather is good and that we are able to spend time outdoors without boots/coats/hats! :)

A walk in the woods

Mother's Day weekend was beautiful up North so we decided to go for a nice hike in the woods on Saturday morning. We did see a little bit of snow in the parking lot but, otherwise, the weather was spectacular. We are so lucky to live in an area that is surrounded by national forests. We decided to head up to a trail in the Chequamegon Forest near Eagle River on this day.

For the most part, Lucy is a fan of riding in her red pack on Daddy's back! She likes to stop and feel the moss on trees or touch branches and she occasionally asks to walk but, overall, she is a good sport about hanging out in her backpack.

Roman is our happy camper! :) He is content to spend time with Mama in the front pack.

Ready to hike!

Hitting the trail!

We did stop for a rest and snacks along the way. :)

What a beautiful day for a hike! We hope to have many, many more family hikes in the months and years ahead.

Lucy @ 30 months

Half way to three, peanut! Here is a little montage of our Lucy at the beginning of May - she turned 2 and a half on May 8th. We are in the throes of potty training right now at the Storm household. :) Lucy is doing a great job. She is wearing her undies to day care everyday, the only time she wears a pull up is to bed (and she does wake up dry almost every day!) and occasionally to nap at school. We are very proud of her!

Lucy has an amazing vocabulary and she is become more observant everyday which is both a blessing and a curse. Haha! She is always talking and it is so much fun to listen to her stories. She is also starting to * loudly* observe things about other people when we are out and about which can be a bit nerve wracking for mama! I am just waiting for her to say something super inappropriate! :) The other day we were at the Walmart in Rhinelander which is definitely an exercise in people watching! Lucy saw a gentleman sporting a pretty big beard, he looked like a character from Duck Dynasty. Anyway - Lucy stared at him and reported to me, 'That man has a lot of hair!!' She then exclaimed, ' That man has a big, big beard!' Now - this dude definitely knows he has a lot of hair so it was more of a compliment to have a 2 year old loudly discussing his appearance but I am scared to think about what may fly out of this child's mouth someday soon!

Northwoods Children's Museum

We are pretty fortunate to have a great children's museum in the Northwoods! Lucy l-o-v-e-s going there! It is the perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Lucy plays in the fish/duck pond.

Roman can nap!

And they have an awesome medical/dental exhibit complete with an ambulance to drive. Lucy really enjoys taking the wheel! Watch out!! :)

A case of the Nap Strikes

Oh, Lucy. I am afraid that you are almost to the age when you will give up your afternoon nap! God help us!! Mama needs that time to get other stuff done, to maintain her sanity around here, and to keep you from getting a serious case of bad behavior! Over the past few months, Lucy has started to refuse napping. She is the queen of stall tactics - as soon as we hit quiet time she wants a drink, she needs to poop, she wants to paint her nails, she needs a snack, she thinks she hears a monster, etc, etc. The thing is - if she doesn't have her naps, and, especially if she misses a couple days in a row of naps, she is a serious bear and becomes pretty naughty.

Here is the goal:

Yay! A peaceful hour for Mama to relax and clean the house.

Here is what is happening more and more frequently around the Storm household:

Goofing around with baby brother in bed.

Or, worse, general refusal to nap followed by destroying the bedroom, playing/yelling, crazy antics until Lucy crashes - sometimes on the floor -

Or in a chair!?!
Mama is missing the days when you would just transition to quiet time without a fight! :) Someday you will understand how glorious a good nap can be, Lucy Goose.

Cowboy & Cowgirl

One of our favorite things about living in Rhinelander is that we are now very close to our good friends, the MacFarland family! Lucy and their son Jacob are about ~3 months apart in age. (And Roman and Evelyn are about ~7 months apart!) Lucy and Jake have known each other since they were tiny little babes and now they are in the same room at day care together. They are BFFs - it is so cute to see them play together. Lucy can be bossy at times but generally they are pretty good friends. :) They enjoy playing dress up together. Good thing that Grandma Nola was able to find 2 sweet pairs of cowboy boot for the dress up bin because they are highly sought after accessories! Here are our 2 little cuties playing cowboy and cowgirl! Love it!

Play Group

Here are a few more pictures from our Friday morning playgroup! We are on a hiatus for the summer months but this little group was such an awesome activity for us this winter/spring! It was a nice regular Friday adventure for us -- a good opportunity to spend time with different kids/mamas and to play with some new toys. I am looking forward to starting up again this fall.

Here is Roman sporting his Twins hat - ready to go play!

Lucy really enjoys this toy even though I think that it is intended for younger kiddos! :)

Her brother loves it too!

Roman @ 8 months

Here is our handsome little guy at 8 months! He weighs in at right around 21 pounds. Roman has 2 teeth, and while he is not crawling year, he is sure rolling, kicking, and pushing off of things with his feet. He can easily clasp his hands together like he is praying and he is just starting to clap. He has a strong grasp  - especially when he is grabbing things like hair, eye glasses, phone, and remote controls. :) Roman is making all kinds of cooing and babbles and it seems like he can say Dada! He loves to eat bananas and avocados. Love you little man!

Madison!

At the end of April Dan and I both had work trips to Madison. We decided to pack up the kids and spend a few days back in our old hometown! :) We sent the dogs to the kennel and loaded the truck. Here are Lucy and Roman in the car headed south.

We stopped at Qdoba along the way - Lucy is always a fan of some quesadilla. :)

My conference on Public Health Accreditation lasted for 2 days so we sent the kids to Play Haven for day care on Wednesday and Thursday. Roman made a triumphant return to the Orange room - all of the teachers were so happy to see him. They all commented on how much he had grown in the past couple of months! Lucy spent a couple of days in the Yellow room. I have to admit that I was a bit scared to leave her there since she did not really know any of the kids or teachers. It was a blast from the past for her though - a lot of the kids in the room were tiny baby classmates with her a couple of years ago. She got to catch up with old pals Kendall and Gianna! She ended up having a great time - she didn't have any accidents, did a great job eating lunch, and played well with her little friends. When I picked her up on Thursday afternoon she exclaimed, 'Mama, I had a great, great day!' Whew! She also reported, 'And nobody hitted me!' Oh, Lucy! The drama of daily life in a 2 year old classroom! Here is one of her reports from her days at Play Haven. She ripped it in half before I was able to take a quick picture. :) My favorite thing is that her teacher said that she was so polite!

We were able to do lots of our favorite things during our visit to Madison like cruise through our old neighborhood and swing by the thrift store!

On Thursday night we had dinner with our good friends, Ann & Mike. Ann got some cuddle time with Roman!

Lucy enjoyed her pizza - followed by ice cream - with Mike and Isaac. Thanks for meeting up with us, Watt family!

On Friday, Daniel went to work and the kids and I spent the day playing. We went to our old library on the East side. Lucy played with the train table while Roman rested.

After we left the Pinney branch we headed toward the zoo to meet up with Julie, Nolan and Lillian. Unfortunately on the way to the zoo, Mama was pulled over for going almost 40 on Atwood (I thought the speed limit was 35 but it turns out it was 25! Who knew!) So I pulled into the Olbrich Gardens Parking Lot and Lucy had lots of observations and very loud questions for the police officer while we were sitting there! Sigh! After comments such as, 'What are we doing mama?' ' Why is that man talking to us' and 'Why are his lights on?' We were only given a warning! Yay!

We happily met our friends Nolan and Lillian at the zoo. It was a beautiful Friday morning so it was packed! I pulled into the parking lot only to find 5 school buses unloading. eek! Needless to say, it was a very busy place. The kids had a great time. It is so funny to watch Nolan and Lucy. Lucy zips all over the place, she runs between exhibits and only stops to look for a few seconds. Nolan seems to have a superior attention span! That guy could have watched the monkeys all day! :)

Our little monkeys watching the monkeys!

Our big guy sporting his Twins hat!

The parrot at the zoo flew off his usual perch and was very close to all of the visitors on this fence! Thanks for the fun morning, Julie and kids. We miss you guys!

On Friday night  treated ourselves to ethnic food - delicious! I also took Lucy swimming at the hotel pool. She l-o-v-e-d it. Swimming in the pool was a glimmer of fun in an otherwise painful experience of spending 5 nights in hotels with two kids two and under. wowza. Trying to get everyone to go to sleep and stay asleep in an unfamiliar place was quite the undertaking. Definitely not the most relaxing of vacations. haha!

On Saturday we partook in all of our Madison favorites!
Walking down State Street

Visiting the Farmers Market!

We blew bubbles at the Capitol

And walked through the beautiful building as a short cut!

After a failed attempt at a nap, we went to the park in Monona to meet up with the Nye family before dinner!

Lucy and Charlotte played together...

…while Roman cheered!

On Sunday we packed everyone up and headed on a Costco run before making the trip back to Rhinelander. Here is a picture of the kids rolling around on the hotel floor - one of their favorite activities of the week. :)

What a wonderful trip! We miss Madison and we are thankful that we are able to get back to visit!
