Community Garden Visit & Wausau Saturday

Lucy's Girl Scout troop recently visited the Community Garden in Rhinelander. It was such a neat place! They learned all about the garden, the irrigation system, and the work that they do for the local Food Pantry. The Scouts taste tested carrots, peppers, and kohlrabi and had the best afternoon.

The girls helped pick some carrots. Here are Lucy and Charlie posing by their harvest.

They weighed the vegetables that were headed to the food pantry.

They were able to check out a huge pumpkin!

The Scouts even got a sunflower to take home as a thank you gift for their hard work. Thank you to Stevie for organizing this fun event!

We picked up Roman after our gardening adventures and had a popsicle together!

On Saturday Daniel had a work meeting in Wausau so we tagged along for some adventures. We went back to school shopping at Target. I can't believe that my little guy will be starting 4K this fall!

Lucy is so excited for first grade!

After our shopping, we went to the park for a picnic. Can you tell that we picked up sunglasses at the Dollar Spot? ;)

We spent the rest of the afternoon at Weston waterpark. It was a perfect day for the pool and the kids had a blast! Roman wasn't quite tall enough for the big waterslides this summer but Lucy was constantly zipping down these guys.

Lucy and Roman were such good listeners at the waterpark that we got some ice cream afterwards as a reward! Yum!

 Happy August everyone!

Early August Happenings - Losing teeth, Birthday Parties and the Oneida County Fair

Early August was full of good stuff at the Storm household! First - Lucy lost her front tooth! She was so excited about her new smile. :) Her front tooth was hanging by a thread forever but she would never let us touch it. Well, she returned home from camp with her little tooth in a baggie one day! Lucy said that her friends were tickling her and that she was laughing so hard that her tooth just popped out!

The tooth fairy visited in the night and left Lucy a sweet note and a dollar.

The kids have been busy celebrating August birthdays. Lucy had fun at a Pony party for her friend Maddie.

Lucy has been so good about keeping up with her reading skills this summer. Her she is reading to her brother.

Roman loves spending time with his pup Ranger.

After the kids cleaned their rooms, they were rewarded with a trip to Oneida County fair.

We saw Hodags.

We fed the goats.

We spent time with our friends Jacob and Evelyn.

Roman was a big fan of these creatures!

We had fun on the rides - Roman loved the dragons.

Roman and Dad zipped down the big slide.

We met up with Miriam and Amber. The girls loved getting dizzy on the spinning rides.

They also enjoyed the slide.

Roman and Evelyn rode on the boat ride together.

Daniel went on the Tilt-a-Whirl with Miriam and Lucy. It turned out to be a poor decision! The ride went on for ages and Dan felt sick for at least an hour afterwards. The girls had a great time though! I guess we are getting too old for these crazy rides. Hahaha!

We ended our evening with a tame ride - nothing beats the carousel!

Roman tried really hard to compete for an inflatable sword by ringing the bell at a carnival game. He wasn't quite able to get it so he settled for an emoji consolation prize instead.

Another memorable fair on the books. ;)

We enjoyed a picnic at Hodag Park after church one Sunday.

Lucy and Roman played at the park for a bit.

And then we headed over to the Holt residence to celebrate Sarah's 5th birthday.

This pack of kids had a great afternoon playing together.

What a fun start to the month of August!

Hoekman Family Weekend - Battle Lake Edition - Part 2

We spent pretty much all day Sunday at Glendalough State Park. What a beautiful place! The beach was fabulous and the lake did not allowed any motorized watercraft so it was a perfect place to let the kids swim.

We rented a paddleboard - the kids absolutely loved cruising around on this thing!

The best part of this day was that we were able to see my Auntie Connie, Uncle Chet, Cousin Caren and Ben and their kids Alissa and Ashlee. Roman and Ashlee are just a couple of months apart - their due dates were almost identical but Ashlee was born very early - at the end of May. She is a little miracle! Look our precious 2013 babes playing together nearly 5 years later. :)

The kids loved playing around on Caren and Ben's tubes.

We also rented a paddle boat.

The kids enjoyed riding around on this little boat too.

After we got back to the cabin, Roman hunted for leopard frogs.

Roman and Jules were either besties or enemies on this trip - here is a nice picture of one of the moments when they were best friends. Hahaha!

Roman loves snuggling with babies - here he is with little Elijah.

We had the best weekend and headed home on Monday. During our drive we stopped at a playground for some time to stretch.

We picnicked at a rest area.

Roman managed to find some toads at the rest area. Guess what - it turns out that if you find a toad at a rest area, you find a bunch of new friends too!

In classic Roman fashion, we traveled for hours on the road before he finally succumbed to sleep right around the time we hit Rhinelander and were about 5 minutes from home. Ugh!

Thanks for such a fun weekend, Hoekman family! We love this tradition!
